OCFP Statement on the Death of Dr. Elana Fric

We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death of our friend and colleague Dr. Elana Fric. No doubt this tragic event has been disturbing for all of us and the many family physicians who knew and cared for her. Dr. Fric was a family physician, mother, researcher and teacher who advocated for an improved health-care system. For many of us she was more than a colleague, she was a dear friend.

As the medical community struggles to understand this tragic event and to support and care for each other while continuing to care for our patients, it is important to remember to also care for ourselves. For anyone looking for additional support at this time, the Ontario Medical Association’s Professional Health Program (PHP) is a confidential service that provides members and their families with a range of services and resources related to a number of areas including stress, burnout, marital and family issues, and mental health.

We extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
